Tsali

Here is Tsali in North Carolina.  This is one of the best places to mountain bike east of the Mississippi river.  If you love mountain biking and live within driving distance of this place you must come here.

Follow this link to the Cheoah Ranger district of the Nantahala National Forest to find maps and trail info.

A word of caution about Tsali: It is very big compared to what most of us are able to ride every day.  If you ride the right and left loop together you will go more than twenty miles.  In Tsali you can get TEN miles away from the parking lot.  That being said, bring plenty of water and food.  Also bring tools to perform basic bike maintenance, such as changing a flat tire, on the trail.  You will need them.

If you discover yourself in need of a bike shop do not fear, the Nantahala Outdoor Center has a bike shot and is just down highway 19 from Tsali.  I found myself in need of some obscure parts when I went to film the trails and these guys helped me out.  Go see them if you need anything for your bike.

I was thinking tonight about the best way to build a video archive from all of the mountain bike trails in the south east.  I could do it by riding all the trails myself, but that would take a really long time.  So what I propose is this: If your SORBA chapter is interested in creating a video archive of your local trails I will supply the equipment to do so, and produce the video.

I will send via fedex a wide angle helmet camera, mounts, memory cards and everything you will need to shoot the footage for the videos.  This package will have detailed instructions about how to set up and operate the camera (it really is pretty easy) and about how to shoot the best footage.  I will include a return shipping label so when you are done you can put everything back in the same package it came it and call fedex to pick it up.

I will then cut and produce a set of videos like the ones you can already see on this website.  I can't send out the cameras to individuals, only to SORBA chapters so if you would like to participate please do so through your local SORBA chapter.  A list of chapters can be found on SORBA's website.

If this is something that you are interested in email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  I think it will be very cool.
